Combat Guide
New Valencia is a violent place, and fights are bound to break out anywhere. Here’s some combat training basics:
Dangerous Characters Come With Red Aura
The City of Eternals is crowded with Vampires, monsters, and occasional humans, but not all of them are dangerous. You can tell which characters are combat-ready by placing your mouse over them. If they glow red, watch out! (Even getting too close may provoke them to attack!)
If you want to get ‘em before they get you, click on your target, and then the FIGHT! button.
Choose Your Fight Moves While Trying to Stay Alive!
Once you’re in fight mode, a combat menu appears at the bottom of your screen, giving you a number of fight moves to choose from. The Vampire’s first fighting move, of course, is biting. Successful bites draw blood from your enemy, and gives you power to choose special combat abilities. (More on that below.)
As you fight, you’ll see numbers floating away from you and your enemy. Those are your Life Points, and whoever loses all of theirs first, dies! Keep track of how many you have left by looking at the blue meter.
If you do die, don’t worry — you are a Vampire, after all, so you’ll find yourself resurrected nearby, to come fighting, or to call it quits.
Choose Your Skills and Equipment!
To increase your odds in combat, select Choose Skills, and Fighting — these are your available battle skills, each with their own advantages and weaknesses. The more you fight, the more your fighting Level grows, which gives you skill points to get new abilities, or improve the ones you have.
Skills are just the start — you also want to make sure you’re properly suited up for Vampire combat. Choose Fighting Gear from the left menu bar; in the inventory window that then appears, choose available items by clicking on them. (Be sure to read the description of each item, to check their attributes; weapons and clothings vary widely in quality.)
Some Final Tips
- Avoid engaging more than one enemy at a time, to prevent yourself from getting mobbed.
- Before attacking, plan an escape route, just in case. Enemies won’t follow you into another zone.
- War is not (always) the answer: many combat situations can be avoided by keeping your distance from characters with red auras.
- Skills are the most important weapons in your arsenal. Check out the Fighting Skills Guide for more info!
